Coaching in practise

Coaching is an effective method that focuses on thought as well as on action, produces change, and stops the client at the goals and forward-moving agency with the help of questions and thinking partnership.

Luotua’s standard coaching process typically takes about 2-3 months and includes:

  • Goal discussion that starts the process (45 min)
  • 5 x coaching discussion (60-90 min)
  • Exercises
  • Achievement discussion at the end of the process (45 min)

The goal of the process is defined jointly by the client (individual/group to be coached) and the sponsor (organization’s representative), or by the client only. A sponsor’s representative can be, for example, a team leader, a supervisor, the owner of the business or a related area, or, HR. When the sponsor is involved in the process, he/she participates in the goal and achievement discussion by bringing out the sponsors’s point of view.

The coach and the client participate in the coaching discussion, and the discussions are held approximately every 2 weeks. The customer gets excercises to do between conversations. The coach assigns execises based on the client’s wishes. Also in group coaching, coach gives each client exercises that take individual wishes into account.

A successful coaching process requires a committed, honest and open attitude towards the process from all parties.

The coaching process and the discussions that belong to it are always confidential.

Coaching is suitable for different situations

Coaching is suitable for many situations, and is a powerful tool when an organizational, group or individual level, you aim to

  • change or enhance of operating methods
  • take over a (new) role, understand role’s expectations and act successfully in the role
  • improve in managing oneself, a team or an organization
  • a successful completion of a project or task
  • reach a goal

There are also situations where coaching is not the right solution. Such situations can be, for example, the following:

  • There is bullying in the work community or the atmosphere is inflamed
  • Client does not have enough resources to act with the goal orientation required by coaching
  • Clietn or sponsor’s representative does not commit to the coaching process
